So this is an expedited review and I plan to visit Porky's again to hopefully edit this review with one of a better experience. Driving by this location on many occasions we have been engulfed in the wafting aroma of meats slowly cooking and being smoked. More than once we have said "we have got to stop in there". It might have been a subconscious resistance on my part as I'm a bit of a barbecue snob. I also prefer "wet" ribs to dry rubs which is often a sticking point, but when "dry" is done well I like them too. We ordered take out mid-evening on a week-night. Three different meals and all different sides. Again ordering many items can give us a more true estimation of the fare offered. We ordered Baby-Backs, Brisket, and Pulled Pork. The Pulled Pork sandwich was good but a bit skimpy on serving size. The Baby Back ribs were very good and a reasonable portion. The Brisket was a smallish portion, bone dry and tough. Their Baked Beans were excellent. Other sides were non-memorable. The young lady working the register was very friendly and prompt in service. One thing of note, another male worker/possible owner, with glasses came from the back to the front counter and seemed perturbed. No acknowledgement from him whatsoever even after he heard a $40 something sale being rung up. Not friendly. I've seen him tending the smoker outside on occasion. Surprising if this is the owner. He may just be the meat guy, not good with people, and therefor should be kept in the shadows. All said, over $40 out the door and maybe 1/3 impressed with the experience and the food. I will say that barbecue is a very difficult fare to prepare well and keep properly. I will try Porky's again this summer when business is brisk and brisket is moving quickly and not sitting getting cold and toughening up. Very possible that selling more product throughout the day will improve quality. Portion control is still a bit stingy in my experience in barbecue around the nation.

My husband and I both ordered the pulled pork with sides of beans and mac'n'cheese. Perfectly smoked, tender ... delicious. And really inexpensive. My sister decided to get the family platter for herself and her husband and daughter, because it was cheaper than buying 3 separate meals. They got an enormous quantity of food -- barbecued chicken, beef ribs, pulled pork, and huge side portions of cole slaw and beans. Even though we were full, we ended up trying their chicken (which was also tender and delicious). Stuffed. But it was all very good, we were all pleased with our meals and really glad we decided to try this place.

We love smoked barbeque and Porky Gs his the spot. The food is delicious and homemade. They are constantly upgrading and improving on the restaurant. Porky G himself is a great guy to talk with and provides quick, efficient device. I agree with some reviewers below that the customer service leaves something to be desired, but the taste of the food us worth it!!

Stopped here when in town on the recommendation of a friend. It is definitely a little hole in wall worth trying. The scalloped potatoes were absolutely delicious, a must have. The macaroni tasted a little watery, but was good. The meats (I had pulled beef and chicken) were very, very tasty, but just a little dry. The BBQ sauces remedied that, the huckleberry one is phenomenal. We will likely be back again if we're staying in the area.

I walked in and ordered my food. What happened next was unbelievable. The guy that took my order walked out of the back room with a mop in his hand from cleaning something. He took my order and handled my cash and then went and proceeded to make my order still using his bare hands. He handle the buns and meat with his bare hands. If you want food borne illness eat here. Otherwise avoid like the plague!!

I go to alot of bbq places all ovet the country and try to hitt every spot in texas. This place is not that good.. very very dry meats. Brisket was tough. I mean tough! What? They call it "Texas brisket" . As a texan.. this is just insulting. I was hungry so I ate it all. They have some interesting sides... just the overall execution is mediocre at best.. please read this.. then watch pit masters. And go to sonny Bryans in dallas. Then I'll be back and update this review.

It was ok as for me it was just grabbing some decent food. The brisket beef was too dry but the pulled pork was nice. I didn't think too much of the Mac and cheese...

Awesome! A must stop for some southern grub. Smoked Mac and Cheese is a must!

Best ribs ever! Love the convenience of the drive-up window. Those scalloped potatoes are to die for as well! Love their sauce! Can't go wrong - prices are great as well!

There are many disciplines of Southern barbecue. I'm not sure exactly what discipline these guys attest to; it's not Eastern North Carolina, not really Western NC, definitely not South Carolina...it's kinda Texas-y but it can't be that because the name of this place isn't "Porky G's Smokehouse." Basically, Southern barbecue for people who have never been to the South. I've eaten there a few times and will again. The food is tasty and you get a lot, but Longhorn in Spokane serves better.

Went for a late dinner right before they closed. Ordered the family dinner , huge portions. I'd say it's good for 4-5 adults for sure. I love good bbq so I was looking forward to this place when I saw it. The good: the bbq sauces were awesome! Mac&chs was good, chicken and pulled pork was great. Good smoke The bad: I found the rub too salty. Not sure if it was because we were there late in the night but the ribs were really dry. Customer service was just ok I'd try it again but it was just ok.

I had Porky G's a while back and I was not impressed at all. I am from Oklahoma so I grew up on good BBQ and I crave it whenever I am having a bad day or just want to treat myself. You could tell the ribs were not cooked for very long because they were hard and chewy. The sauces are okay. The apple dumpling was pretty good but my husband thought the opposite. I don't think I will ever order from here again.

Yum!!! Always delish. The smoked mac and cheese is possibly heaven on a fork! But really you can't go wrong with anything on their menu.

I spent 10 years in TN and I've had some really good southern BBQ. This place makes me miss TN. I suggest for 4-6 people you get the family meal. It's a great deal and the portions are huge and it is so delicious. Four grown hungry women could not finish this meal. This place ROCKS!

This place was average at best. The portion sizes are good. Their sauces aren't anything special. People here seemed odd but friendly.

Um, really?? The BEST BBQ?? I must have gone on an off-night (weird, considering it was a Saturday night, right around 6 pm). My meat was really dry, difficult to chew even dunked in sauce. I had a combination with three different meats (beef brisket, pulled pork and sausage) and the sausage was the only thing I even wanted to finish. The green beans were yummy but overcooked. Perhaps it's better to go for lunch? They were out of ribs when I went so perhaps I'll try again but, honestly, I was really unimpressed. I trashed most of my meal.

This is what I expect from a Southern BBQ! We ordered ribs, chicken, coleslaw, smoked mac and cheese, and bread rolls. Divine! Except the smoked mac and cheese, I've never had it smoke flavored, neither have my children. It was a little too spicy for my three year old, but I still ate it. The coleslaw was tangy, the ribs smelled the way smoked ribs should taste. The chicken the owner gave us had the darkest color I've ever seen. I wonder if he was trying to get rid of the burnt looking ones, or if all his chicken looks like this. Hmmm? When my husband went in to order he had to wait a little. The owner saw him and my daughter walk in, did not greet them, and continued to wipe down the tables. My husband tried to small talk while owner was swiping his card for payment, and he cracked a smile! Pricing is reasonable, better than expected for the amount of food we ordered. If ever in Couer D'Alene again, we will order takeout. It really was tasty!

Like others that have reviewed Porky G's, I was drawn in by the smells while driving by. My daughter and I stopped in to try it out. We were a little overwhelmed by the huge menu on the wall. My eyes saw the "Texas brisket" and I was sold .... (we're from Texas) You get your choice of a sandwich or a "plate with 2 sides" and figuring this was served the same way most bbq places if you purchased the plate (just meat, no bread) we went that route. It took awhile to order even though we got there well before the lunch rush. I had to help the lady with our order...she couldn't seem to figure out what I was ordering and write it down. Organization is crazy at best in this place. The lady that did take my order was the only friendly one in the place though. Our lunch was brought out by a very grumpy looking guy that didn't even say "hi, have a nice day, enjoy your lunch....zip" He brought out two plates with sandwiches and our sides....coleslaw, mac and cheese, beans and potato salad. He was gone before I could say we didn't order sandwiches and the line was too long at that point so we just ate the meat out of the sandwich. My daughter had the brisket and I had the pulled pork. Brisket had no flavor even though she drenched it in the worst vinegar bbq sauce I have ever tasted. Brisket had no smoke or bark on it. Pulled pork wasn't bad but it was dry. The sides were so over seasoned and after 2 bites of each we stopped eating. All in all I would say that for 21.00 for 2 lunches, I'd move on down the road to Post Falls for bbq.

Okay BBQ. Nothing tasted fresh. The sauce was okay. It doesn't seem like they take much pride in the food they're serving here, but maybe I caught them on an off day. I'd come again and try the ribs. I had brisket this visit and it just okay.

What an amazing BBQ place!!!!!!! People like places like Texas roadhouse and Famous Dave's, but this is true BBQ at small price.

Giving it 5 Stars even though they were out of my fav side dish. If I had to pick the best BBQ north of KC, my bet would be on this place. Great tasting ribs, brisket and hot links; meaty delicious baked beans, clean place, friendly service. And very fair pricing. In nice neighborhood about half a mile off I-90. Don't understand previous review about limiting the sauce. There were two full bottles of sauce on every table and you can add as much sauce to your meal as you want. Sauce is southern style, and is tasty. As a sidenote, they sell bags of fruit wood chips from the wood they use to smoke the meats. I bought one and brought it home. Using those chips at home produced more great BBQ.

Oh my goodness - you gotta try this place! A little hole in the wall in appearance but the huckleberry BBQ sauce is wonderful! Never tasted anything like it before...& the slaw is the best around too!

I'm from the South. This is not BBQ - not Southern BBQ anyway. This is smoked meat that you add sauce to. Very dry with very little flavor without the sauce. Doesn't even have much smoke flavoring to it. There were also other parts besides meat in our BBQ - besides lots of fat (a little is good and improves flavor), there was also a large piece of chicken gizzard in my chicken BBQ along with some skin or cartilage (couldn't quite tell, but it was gross). Should not have to go through our meat before eating in order to make sure it's all edible. Our family had the pulled pork and pulled chicken plates with creamed corn, green beans, and regular and sweet fries. The sides were all that were good to me. Good BBQ to me is cooked long and slow in lots of sauce to where it is tender and flavorful when served. Served piled high on a roll with coleslaw - that's southern BBQ.

DD & I stopped by for dinner the other night, our first time at Porky G's. we walked out full and satisfied. Very good food. DD had a smoked German Sausage with pasta salad & slaw, she was happy. My tri tip was smoky & tender, the creamed corn is to die for. We'll be back!

Overall good, the beans were best, I mean if I go back I would be eating beans and soda. Still don't get BBQ places that are stingy with the sauce, give me a bunch of choices and don't limit my sauce consumption. Brisket was ok, a bit dry and flavorless, pulled pork was better but lacking on moisture and flavor, but great with sauce. The soda, tea selection and deserts make up for the flavor of the BBQ, but I'm jaded as I've eaten at a ton of true BBQ joints, 3 stars is still a respectable showing, just wish for more sauce application and BBQ flavor.

I really liked this place. We went for lunch, it was low key. We were in town for the Ironman race (and learned we had actually bought from them the day before at their booth by the race). My husband got the pulled pork sandwich with beans and Au gratin potatoes. I got the brisket with mac n cheese and Au gratin potatoes. We both enjoyed our meat as well as the sides. My favorite was the potatoes. YUM. We sat outside and enjoyed the cool breeze and it was kind of fun to see the meat being smoked out there in a big smoker. The owner was really nice, he saw my husband hobble around & wearing his Ironman finisher shirt and he offered to buy us drinks cause he thought it was impressive and crazy (haha). If we ever make it back to this area, we will definitely eat here again! Great prices too. For under $10, meat and two sides.

Just okay. The BBQ was not very flavorful, dry, and the sauces weren't good to cover it up, either. I wouldn't return here.

I go here every time I hit CDA. Awesome bbq and the sides may be the best part of the meal. Smoked mac and cheese and the creamed corn is the sheet. This is a must hit for lunch when you're in CDA!

I'm a little surprised after reading the reviews. Usually Yelp doesn't let us down. My wife and I went to lunch here back about a month ago or so, and had the "Worst" food ever. All the side dishes we had were either from a can or processed somewhere other than here. The mashed potatoes were NOT real potatoes, but from a " Freeze Dried" product. The ribs were tasteless and Dry, the pulled pork had no flavor and dry as well. The place looks like it could be a really good BBQ restaurant, but we probably will never go back. Another note: seems they will close when they want to, went to pick up dinner to go there one night and they had closed @ 6:45. :(. Sorry.

Amazing food!! We chose the meal that comes with 5 meats and 2 sides we also purchased a soda pop total after tax $21 and some change. It fed myself my husband and my daughter with a fully packed to go box! All sauce is on the side which is perfect for our family that has all different tastes (sweet and spicy is my favorite!) The only thing I would change is table service as opposed to the walk up counter service they have now. We will return!

Real Deal BBQ. This place knows what they're doing. I went here for lunch and got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac n cheese, and another side of cole slaw. The guy working there said it would be the best pulled pork I ever tasted, which is setting the bar pretty high. I don't believe people when they say it's the BEST, but I do believe that a meal can't get any better, and that's just what is going on here at Porky G's, you can't get any better BBQ.

  • Tony T.

The food is great, TENDER baby backs, and excellent sides. The price tag is not to bad either. The owner starts smoking the food the night before, comes back around 4am to flip them over, then again around 8am to take them off the smoker to serve, or so I'm told, either way, very good and tender.

I have been a fan for years now. Moved away from CDA last year but whenever I come back I go to Porky G's for the best BBQ around. Love the new location and bigger menu as well. Good luck Porky!!!
